Cavalia

Heading to Cavalia for media day on Tuesday.  60 horses. 23 artists with driving force Normand Latourelle who helped build Cirque du Soleil.  This should be equally dazzling.  2003 was the world premiere of Cavalia and believe it or not, it was in the town where my mother in law was born, Shawinigan, Quebec.  I've seen many Cirque shows because a relative was involved since the inception (http://edimage.ca/edimage/grandspersonnages/en/carte_j07.html) - Always transported and awe struck by the originality of the music, lights and acrobatics.  After one show in particular, was it Quidam?,  I remember my husband and I were backstage.  There was "Bendy man" and his brother right there in front of us in their blue, well, blue speed skater suits is the only way I can think to describe 'em.   It was one of the FEW times I simply couldn't think of a single question to ask. Their faces were painted blue to match their suits.  Their act gave the impression of a single, blue, writhing, human-serpent, impossibly contorting so you couldn't tell where one began and the other ended. I was so distracted by how slippery everything looked up close.... like blue mineral oil, and then... I must have been staring rudely mute taking it all in, because suddenly they disappeared into the rest of the troop.  Can't wait to see Cavalia. The horses and riders after the performance will be amazing to talk to.  I wonder how long it takes for the artist/rider to make that connection with the horses?  I wonder how they select the horses that perform?  And riders?  How are they chosen?  Will take photos, if allowed, and share them.
